Start by just going to Home Depot. Look for LED lights. You should be able to find some with the exposed wiring. Then just buy some wire that looks good (and can handle the current). Bind them together a couple of feet above the top. Splice the wires all together at the top of the fixture. You may have to get creative with the electrical tape or plastic covering there. Then you should also be able to find an AC plug with exposed wires. Just splice those together too!
PS, I made a lamp about 10 years ago that's still kicking!
